PicTheArtist: Elijah

Hey everyone,

Introducing to you a new segment of the blog called "PicTheArtist". Here you get to meet local artist who might share tips, and info on what they do; whether its photography, videography or designing. Today, our feature is Elijah from Providence, RI. Here is a quick interview and samples of his work.

ENJOY!

What do you do?
I do photo/video/design.

Choice of equipment?
Canon for both photo & video. Currently running a 5DMKIII.

What do you edit with?
I use everything Adobe. Photoshop, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator.

When did you start taking your craft serious?
I started with photography around 8th grade as something to learn because I was bored with school, at the same time I was learning how to use photoshop and illustrator & for 4/5 years I just did it all for fun. It wasn’t until I upgraded to my MKIII in spring of 2016 when I started to realize where it could take me, & now it all comes together doing what I do now.

Favorite lens to use?
For my daily use, a 24-70 f/2.8. Too versatile to not always have it on me.

Best tip for new beginners?
Shoot everything you want and can. Make videos of anything, take photos of anything. Learn the craft and find your lane. Find what it is you want people to view in your work. Continue to learn and grow in this field cause it is always evolving. Have fun and never lose sight of why you started the journey.

PicThePhoto - tinybagel

Hey, Joshi here again. Today I'm giving a shout out to my friend Angela (follow her @tinybagel) and a thank you to her for letting us use one of her photos. This is a photo she took of one of her figures and I gotta say, she did an astounding job of really bringing it to life. The way she used the cool colors and setting of the background to compliment the figure's own colors and pose really makes it a very aesthetic and pleasing piece to look at.

I would really recommend seeing her other photos on her instagram. The way she uses lighting and backgrounds to display her figures is honestly a talent. Not only that, but you'll find other things such as cosplays, anime, and vidya games.

PicTheInspiration

Joshi here. Today I want to talk about a piece from a game called Hotline Miami 2. This particular piece by Niklas Ã…kerblad always stood out to me because of how well it portrays the character in it. The man is known as Beard, a Vietnam veteran who now works several different jobs and is a friend to the main protagonist.Without playing the game, you can tell by just this drawing what kind of character Beard really is. Past his calm demeanor and laid-back looks, you can see the flames and faces of his past. The flames are roaring and the faces are angry, Beard is clad in cool colors conflicting with the warm colors from the flames, and even by just looking at his one broken lens, you can tell that everything is not alright internally for Beard. In the story, when you first meet him, you would never have known that this calm and gentle man had dozens of kills under his belt and even survived a suicide mission, knowing full well that him and his entire unit were meant to die the day before they were told they were going to be sent home.

This is honestly one of my favorite pieces of art I have ever come across and I will be definitely be revisiting Hotline Miami on this blog because there's so much more in that game when it comes to the visuals, it will take several posts to really get a good grasp of its amazing designs.

PicTheArt - Kyra

Joshi here, I just wanted to give a shout out to my friend Kyra who's being bro for giving me permission to show off her work. This is a magnificent piece if you're into the whole aesthetic culture. Her designs are next level.

You can find more of her work on her instagram.

PicTheArt - Eggplants

Hey guys, it's your boy Joshi again. Just posting more on here during the snowstorm to have something on it.Today's going to be a shout out to my girlfriend who goes by the nickname Eggplants. This is a beautiful piece she created a while back ago and it has a story to go along with it. It just goes to show that you can get inspiration from just about anywhere.

"So when I was like 9 or 10 I went to visit my aunt in Kansas, who does a lot of hunting, she killed a deer once and had the head stuffed and hung in the spare room me and my brother were sleeping in during our visit. I was really paranoid that the arrow she used to kill it which was placed on the antlers would fall on me when I was sleeping. I had a hard time sleeping and my brother did not want to switch beds with me but nothing ever happened and after our visit we go back home but like a month or so later my aunt tells me that the whole stuffed dear fell of the wall. That's about it."

My First Time With Digital Art.

This is the very first piece of digital art I ever drew. It is a portrait of a friend and at the time, all I had was Gimp and a mouse to draw with. As you can see, we all have to start out somewhere.
